Solomon's Castle

The children are really going to like this one.
After reading the story about the temple that Solomon built for YHWH, and about the home (castle) that he built for himself, the children get a chance to make their own castle.

Items Needed:

1.) Box (small shoe box, happy meal boxes, or any small box of this size)
2.)  empty toilet paper roll and/or empty paper towel roll
3.)  construction paper
4.) markers, crayons, map pencils
5.) Glue
6.)  Straw
7.)  tape

Instructions:

1.)  Take the box and lay on some old newspaper to keep the area clean.
2.)  Next, use your markers, crayons, and map pencils to draw lines on your construction paper to make a brick design.  Then, each of the bricks that you drew.
3.)  Next, Glue the tp and paper towel holders in place to make towers.  The tp rolls can be used to make short towers, and the paper towel holders used to make taller towers.
4.)  Next, take the construction paper and glue all around the box and tp rolls, and paper towel rolls to keep the construction paper on the box, and to cover up the rolls.
5.)  Take a piece of construction paper, and cut out a flag, and color it.  Glue or tape the flag to the straw.  Next glue or tape the straw to the castle.
6.)  Let dry.

Note:    If you want, you can cut a partial recantangle in the front of your box (before glueing on the construction paper.   This will make your door or draw bridge.  If making a drawbridge, cut out only three sides to your rectangle leaving the bottom uncut.  This way, the drawbridge will open out, and not come apart from the rest of your castle.
If your making doors, then cut out the top, one side, and bottom of your rectangle, leaving one side uncut so that your doors open side to side.

Here are a couple of websites to look at for an example castle.
Also, these have free templates to print out.
